Cover Girl Out Last Lipcolour

I’m big into long-lasting lipsticks so, last year – after checking out my trusted review sites AND getting a recommendation from a friend – I bought Cover Girl Outlast All-Day Lipcolour in Radiant Red.

You’ve probably heard of it – or similar lipsticks. It’s a two-step thing. You slick on the glossy colour stuff from one tube and then go over your lips with a clear top coat to ‘lock in’ the colour from the other tube.

So far, so good.

To be honest, I wasn’t all that impressed with the colour. It was a sort of washed out shimmery red and I like bold reds but this was as close as I could get.

Sure, it lasted a long time but then it started to fade around lunch. That’s okay, I thought. I’ll just top up my colour. Off to the bathroom I went to slick on a fresh coat.

BIG mistake.

My lips looked like they had been coated in paint and the paint was peeling off. It was gross. That’s okay, I thought. I’ll just rub it off.

BIG mistake.

The stuff wouldn’t budge.

So now I looked like I had some kind of zombie lip disease and was stuck with it FOREVER.

I knew the formula would be hard to remove. That’s why I bought it, right? I scrambled around my bag, desk and drawers at work to see what I had that could dissolve this bad boy.

Nivea cream was my best bet. With TISSUES which, of course, fell apart with all my scrubbing and the moisture from the cream.

After what felt like 20 minutes I managed to get most of the colour off but certainly not all. AND my lips were not happy with me.

One guess what happened to that lippie … IN. THE. BIN. And $10 wasted. I will NEVER buy anything like that again. A complete disaster.

Sadly, no photos of said catastrophe exist. It was long before I started this blog and I was far too focused on saving my mouth from zombie hell.

I know you’ve been there too. What was the worst beauty product you’ve bought? Share your experience in the comments so we can all avoid making the same mistake.

  1. I used to buy very strange ‘foundation’ type products from Boots. In fact, all my make up came from chemists untill I learnt about the posh stuff. I remember once catching sight of myself in the mirror in a club under UV light. It was terrifying. The living dead. With flakes. A while later a certain someone frog marched me to the Prescriptives make up counter in Selfridges where I had custom blended foundation made. It was miraculous. I don’t know why I never went back for more, perhaps the cost…
