Summer lips: out with the matte red and in with the sheer balm

I dunno about you but since the weather has become warmer and I’ve been riding my bike to work, I’ve felt kind of weird about wearing my bright orange/red matte lipstick.

I’m not saying for a moment that you should change your makeup with the seasons. You should do whatever you damn well like.

I’m just not entirely comfortable with dry, matte lips in summer.

I don’t wear a ton of makeup in the first place but I usually hold back on the face products in summer switching to MAC Blot Powder. Sweaty bike riding and powder foundation don’t play well together (cue: blotchy mess).

Anyway, I figured I needed an alternative to the bright matte lipstick so I did some research and picked up the following three lip products for summer wear.

They intensify in colour starting with the most subtle.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Rich Girl Red

Rich Girl Red is a very sheer, balm-like lipstick. It’s not long-wearing and gives a hint of colour to your lips.

Price: around $8 CA

If you’ve ever used Clinique’s Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm, then all you need to know is this is an EXACT DUPE but costs half the price.

It goes on very smoothly and offers a bit more colour than the Revlon Super Lustrous.

Price: around $10 CA

Lancome Lip Lover in 353 Rose Gracieuse

The Lancome Lip Lover is a total splurge. It cost around $30 which is a hell of lot considering how often I apply lip gloss cos it wears off more quickly than a lipstick. However, when this one wears off, there’s a nice stain left.

It’s totally my favourite out of the three (thank God!)

And I absolutely want to buy more colours.

Price: around $30 CA

What changes do you make to your routine in summer if indeed you do make changes? Or is it just me?

(PS: this whole ‘photos of my mouth up close’ is a bit unnerving.)
